Top 15 - International Competition: Smart city + Design

Group Project | Tai Le - Nhu Vo
Public Building | HCM, Vietnam | Winter 2021

A smart city epitomizes an idyllic milieu wherein the locals and the natural milieu coexist harmoniously, fostering a symbiotic relationship that engenders mutual progress. In its innate splendor, the verdant tapestry of nature craves an expanse wherein it can thrive. At the same time, humanity, in its quest for holistic advancement, yearns for the nurturing embrace of nature, both corporeally and cognitively. Within the purview of this ambitious endeavor, we propose three pioneering concepts for their potential applicability: the 15-minute Life Circle, Shinrin Yoku, and Biophilia. These meticulously researched and curated groundbreaking ideas hold the promise of revolutionizing the urban fabric, propelling it toward a sustainable future. The 15-minute Life Circle, a visionary concept, seeks to create self-sufficient neighborhoods wherein all essential amenities and services are within a 15-minute walking radius, fostering a sense of community and reducing reliance on vehicular transportation. Shinrin Yoku, an ancient Japanese practice, advocates immersing oneself in the therapeutic embrace of nature, harnessing its healing powers to rejuvenate the mind, body, and soul. Lastly, Biophilia, a profound understanding of humanity’s innate affinity for nature, seeks to integrate natural elements into the urban landscape, enriching the aesthetic experience and promoting well-being. Together, these ideas form the bedrock of a transformative blueprint, poised to reshape the urban landscape into an oasis of sustainable development and harmonious coexistence.
