Finalist - Pedestrian Bridge Design in Imperial City of Hue Competition

Group Project | Tai Le - Thuy Quynh Nguyen
Pedestrian Bridge | Hue, Vietnam | Summer 2023

Hue is a remarkable destination with various captivating elements, including serene rivers, charming architecture, and warm-hearted locals. Those who have experienced its allure will forever cherish the moments when its enchanting ambiance touched their souls. Preserving these beauties is the Imperial City of Hue, a place that not only holds the remnants of past glory but also embodies the pure essence of Hue's beauty.

Creating a pedestrian space within a heritage area is an immensely challenging task. It requires a design that reflects a deep sense of responsibility towards the community, the heritage, and the spirit of Hue. In this project, we have identified three crucial elements: heritage, nature, and people.

Firstly, when it comes to heritage, the construction must be carefully situated in a "sensitive" location, ensuring both functionality and the preservation of the existing Imperial City. Our first idea is to create a simple, unassuming connecting pathway that harmonizes with the surroundings. The second idea is to connect the past, present, and future with the Imperial City overlooking the Perfume River. The next element is nature, and the construction aims to pay homage to it by providing open spaces that allow visitors to immerse themselves in the romantic atmosphere of the surrounding environment.

People are an integral part of this project. Drawing inspiration from the captivating colors of Hue's enamel ceramics, the interior of the construction will feature ever-changing hues to captivate and engage visitors. Additionally, this space holds educational significance, as we intend to display written works, poems, and paintings that bring culture and art closer to everyone.
